The Institute of Systems and Computers Engineering of Coimbra is a non-profit private institution, declared of public utility, having as associates the University of Coimbra, INESC and the Polytechnic of Leiria.

INESC Coimbra’s mission is to carry out scientific research, promote technological development and transfer knowledge to society, aiming to contribute to a better performance of companies and institutions in an engineering systems approach, combining theory and methodology, technical issues, and human factors to address complex problems relevant to sustainable development, based on a strongly interdisciplinary research team.

INESC Coimbra’s areas of research and innovation are decision support systems and methods, energy systems and policies, design and management of communication networks, support for spatial decision-making in regional and urban planning, geospatial information, planning and management of hydraulic infrastructure and water resources, computational mechanics applied to structural systems, and advanced robotics and smart factories.
