Introdução
In 1980, when José Tribolet and João Lourenço Fernandes founded INESC and adopted the motto “Vencer o Adamastor” (Conquer the Adamastor), their objective was to create an institution that would play a significant role in addressing the chronic lag in scientific and technological development that the country was experiencing.
Over the four decades that have since passed, the institutions within the INESC group, along with many others that followed and adopted similar organizational models, have indeed played a significant role in the Portuguese scientific and technological system. However, Portugal is not yet the country we all wish it to be—a leader in science and technology, where scientists and innovators are seen as role models and inspire the new generations.
In this context, and because it is essential to publicly recognize the value of contributions to the advancement of science, INESC has decided to establish the Vencer o Adamastor Prize. This prize aims to acknowledge and bring visibility to works of exceptional quality by young Portuguese scientists or residents in Portugal for at least three years, who demonstrate scientific excellence, vision, and leadership capabilities.

- Promotion of the prize during the application opening phase.
- Coverage of the public prize award event.
- Promotion of the awarded scientific work and related technologies.

Purpose of the award
The Vencer o Adamastor Award aims to distinguish young Portuguese scientists who have already demonstrated significant potential to contribute to the advancement of science in the fields of electrotechnics, computing, and related areas. These individuals should also have the potential to make a significant contribution to the future scientific development of the country as researchers, scientists, educators, and future leaders.
The prize will be awarded to the candidate who not only demonstrates a proven ability to produce high-quality scientific work but also exhibits a vision for future scientific and technological developments in their research area.
